On December 25th, Polish families continue to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Today, they gather for a festive Christmas lunch, give presents, exchange kind wishes, and enjoy time with their loved ones.
The festive table is rich with dishes reflecting Polish traditions: from fried fish and sausages to Christmas desserts like makowiec (poppy seed roll) and pierniki (gingerbread cookies).
🎶 On this day, many cities host Christmas carol concerts, and in some regions, nativity plays are performed, reenacting the story of Jesus’ birth.
Fun fact: In Poland, there is a tradition of “szopki” – Christmas nativity scenes that families set up at home. They can be very large and detailed, depicting scenes from Bethlehem.
