From Warsaw to the Adriatic – a new train route wins the hearts of travelers

The summer travel season is in full swing, and one of the new rail routes has already become a real hit among travelers. We’re talking about the train from Warsaw to Rijeka (Croatia), which has been operating regularly since late June, passing through Włoszczowa and heading daily toward the warm shores of the Adriatic Sea.

Since the launch on June 27, over 11,000 tickets have already been sold. The sleeping compartments are especially popular — all beds were booked far in advance, and it’s now nearly impossible to find a free spot. Only regular seats remain — 172 across two carriages.

The train, called Adriatix Express, passes through four countries: Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, and finally ends its journey in Croatia. The total route is approximately 1,240 kilometers long, and the entire journey takes just over 19 hours. Despite the duration, the trip offers a unique chance to experience Central Europe in one go.

The last departure from Warsaw this season is scheduled for August 29, and the return trip from Rijeka on August 31. PKP Intercity representatives have already announced that the project is seen as promising, and it’s likely the connection will return next year.

The company notes that the Rijeka route was a pilot project and has helped gather valuable passenger feedback to further improve travel conditions in the future.

So, if you missed it this summer — stay tuned. The next journey to the Adriatic may just be the beginning of a new rail tradition.
